THE ORGANIZATION
Africa Climate Solutions (ACS) is evidence and innovation centered scientific non-profit Non-Governmental Organization (NGO) dedicated to advancing climate-resilient, environmentally sustainable, and equitable development across Africa. ACS operates to generate actionable scientific evidence that supports resilient development pathways, climate justice, and sustainable environmental management. The organization focuses on scientific research, climate analytics, data systems, innovation, climate services, and evidence-based policy support across critical sectors including agriculture, water, energy, health, infrastructure, ecosystems, governance, and climate finance.
ACS is committed to addressing Africa’s major climate and environmental challenges, including increasing climate extremes, limited observational data systems, growing climate vulnerabilities, and the need for integrated climate intelligence to support adaptation, mitigation, and Loss and Damage assessment. Through its research programs, digital innovations, and partnerships, ACS seeks to strengthen Africa’s capacity to generate, manage, and utilize climate information for policy and investment decision-making.
About the Position
Africa Climate Solutions (ACS) seeks a highly skilled and innovative Geospatial Analytics and Remote Sensing Specialist to support the organization’s climate intelligence, environmental monitoring, and sectoral risk analytics programs. The position is designed to strengthen ACS’s capacity in spatial data analysis, Earth observation applications, climate hazard mapping, and geospatial decision-support systems.
The specialist will play a central role in developing spatially explicit climate risk assessments and geospatial products that support evidence-based planning and climate-resilient development across Africa. The role involves integrating satellite observations, climate datasets, socio-economic information, and environmental indicators to generate high-resolution analyses of hazards, exposure, vulnerability, and impacts across sectors such as agriculture, water, health, infrastructure, ecosystems, and energy.
The successful candidate will contribute significantly to ACS’s Sectoral Risk Analytics Platform and the broader Data & Tools Portal, ensuring that geospatial products are scientifically robust, policy-relevant, and user-centered. The role requires expertise in remote sensing, GIS, geostatistics, climate analytics, and spatial modeling, as well as the ability to communicate technical outputs to diverse audiences.
The position also supports regional and national climate adaptation planning, ecosystem monitoring, disaster risk reduction, and environmental sustainability initiatives aligned with priorities under the United Nations Environment Programme, World Meteorological Organization, and climate finance mechanisms.
Specific Terms of Reference include:
- Conduct spatial climate risk assessments and geospatial analyses across multiple sectors and regions.
- Develop climate hazard, exposure, vulnerability, and risk maps using remote sensing and GIS techniques.
- Integrate satellite observations, observational datasets, climate model outputs, and socio-economic datasets into analytical workflows.
- Support the development of ACS’s Sectoral Risk Analytics Platform and geospatial dashboards.
- Analyze land use/land cover change, vegetation dynamics, drought conditions, hydrological variability, and ecosystem degradation.
- Develop spatial indicators and geospatial products to support climate adaptation planning and environmental management.
- Perform geostatistical analyses and spatial interpolation of climate and environmental variables.
- Design and maintain spatial databases and geospatial data management systems.
- Produce high-quality maps, visualizations, and geospatial intelligence products for technical and policy audiences.
- Support climate impact assessments, environmental monitoring, and ecosystem resilience analyses.
- Contribute to scientific publications, technical reports, and policy briefs.
- Provide technical support for climate finance proposals requiring geospatial evidence and risk analysis.
- Train and mentor staff and stakeholders in GIS, remote sensing, and spatial analytics methodologies.
