Capacity Building & Skills Development
Human and institutional capacity constraints remain a major barrier to effective climate action in Africa. Many countries face shortages of trained experts in climate science, data analytics, risk assessment, and modeling, as well as limited institutional capacity to manage and utilize complex datasets. These limitations hinder the ability to design, implement, and evaluate climate-resilient development interventions.
Investing in capacity building is therefore essential for ensuring long-term sustainability and ownership of climate initiatives. Strengthened capacity enables countries to independently generate and interpret climate information, engage effectively in international negotiations, and access and manage climate finance. It also supports the development of local expertise, reducing reliance on external technical assistance and enhancing resilience at multiple scales.
ACS delivers targeted training programs, technical workshops, and curriculum development initiatives focused on climate science, risk assessment, attribution, and Loss and Damage methodologies.
Capacity-building initiatives are designed in partnership with national institutions, universities, and regional centers, ensuring long-term sustainability. Training modules integrate practical tools, datasets, and case studies, enabling participants to directly apply knowledge in policy and operational contexts.
