Africa Climate Solutions (ACS) is evidence and innovation centered scientific non-profit Non-Governmental Organization (NGO) dedicated to advancing climate-resilient, environmentally sustainable, and equitable development across Africa. The organization focuses on scientific research, climate analytics, data systems, innovation, climate services, and evidence-based policy support across critical sectors including agriculture, water, energy, health, infrastructure, ecosystems, governance, and climate finance.

About the Position

Africa Climate Solutions (ACS) is seeking an enthusiastic Science Communication and Knowledge Translation Intern to support the translation of complex scientific research into clear, engaging, and policy-relevant communication products. The internship is intended for final-year MSc students or PhD candidates with strong writing skills and a passion for climate science, environmental sustainability, and evidence-based policymaking.

The intern will work closely with researchers to synthesize scientific publications, technical reports, project findings, conference outcomes, and climate events into concise summaries, policy briefs, news stories, blogs, newsletters, and digital communication materials. The position provides an excellent opportunity to develop expertise in science communication while contributing to the visibility and impact of ACS’s research and innovation activities.

This internship is particularly suited for individuals who enjoy scientific writing, storytelling, editing, and communicating technical information to diverse audiences.

Specific Terms of Reference include

The successful intern will support the following activities:

Research Translation

• Read and synthesize scientific journal articles, technical reports, and policy documents. 
• Prepare concise summaries of research findings for policymakers and non-technical audiences. 
• Translate complex scientific concepts into accessible language. 

Website Content Development

• Develop engaging website articles highlighting ACS research and innovation. 
• Prepare summaries of completed projects and ongoing research. 
• Produce feature stories for the ACS website. 

Publications

• Assist in developing newsletters and research highlights. 
• Draft policy briefs and technical summaries. 
• Support editing of institutional publications. 

Events Communication

• Cover conferences, workshops, webinars, and seminars. 
• Prepare event reports and news releases. 
• Interview researchers and stakeholders. 
• Produce “key takeaways” from scientific meetings. 

Knowledge Translation

• Develop “Research in Brief” products. 
• Prepare Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs). 
• Produce explainers on climate science, adaptation, attribution, climate finance, and Loss and Damage. 

Digital Communication

• Develop content for LinkedIn, X, Facebook, and other platforms. 
• Prepare infographics and visual summaries in collaboration with the communications team. 
• Assist in multimedia storytelling. 

Editorial Support

• Proofread and edit reports. 
• Ensure consistency in scientific messaging. 
• Maintain high editorial standards. 

Requirements

Applicants should meet the following qualifications:

• Final-year MSc student or current PhD candidate in Climate Science, Environmental Science, Science Communication, Journalism, Communication, Geography, Sustainable Development, Public Policy, or related disciplines. 
• Excellent scientific writing and editing skills in English. 
• Strong ability to interpret scientific literature. 
• Ability to communicate complex information clearly and accurately. 
• Excellent command of written English. 
• Experience writing blogs, policy briefs, newsletters, or scientific summaries is highly desirable. 
• Familiarity with climate change, sustainable development, and environmental issues. 
• Experience using AI-assisted writing tools responsibly is an advantage. 
• Knowledge of Canva, Adobe Illustrator, or similar tools is desirable. 
• Excellent organizational and time-management skills. 
• Ability to work independently and meet deadlines. 

Terms of Employment

• Home-based internship. 
• Flexible work schedule compatible with postgraduate studies. 
• Internship duration: 3–6 months, renewable based on performance.
